Werribee Park graft not hard work

17 Aug, 2011 12:00 AM
THE second annual grafting day will take place at Werribee Park Heritage Orchard on Saturday and, after last year's success, another strong turnout is expected.

Tree expert Richard Hawkey (pictured) says it's an ideal chance for people wanting to learn grafting techniques and to buy one-year-old heritage fruit trees.

"We were amazed at the number of younger people from the west who were keen to grow fruit in their backyards." Mr Hawkey says fruit trees available for grafting include apples, quinces and pears. "If people have got spare space in their backyard to plant a tree they can purchase it from our place."

The event is from 10am-2pm at K Road, Werribee.
