Description

  • Origin: The tree from the village Újfehértó was selected by the Hungarian government as the best sour cherry and the Hungarian expert named the variety Újfehértói Fürtös, which means “Bunched of Újfehértó”. It was then introduced into United States in 1984 by Dr. Amy Iezzoni, Professor of Horticulture at Michigan State University (Clarksville Research Centere) in East Lansing, Michigan. It was named Balaton® (for a lake in its native Hungary)
