Description

• BEURRÉ D’Anjou Pear Harvest: Late Description: The tree is large, vigorous, spreading and hardy
• Fruit: Ovoid conical shape with medium to large size fruit
• There are two cultivars
• The “Green D’Anjou” and the “Red D’Anjou”
• The green variety has a pale green skin that does not change colour as the pear ripens, unlike most other cultivars of green pears, which turn yellow as they ripen
• The Red D’Anjou pear originated as a naturally occurring bud sport found on Green D’Anjou trees
• Uses: Eating Origin: An old French pear the origin of which is obscure, although it is supposed to have originated in the vicinity of Angers
• Early in the nineteenth century it was introduced into England by Thomas Rivers
• The variety was originally named ‘Nec Plus Meuris’ in Europe and got the name when introduced to America and England
