Description

  • Origin: Also known as “Pêche de Vigne (or peaches of the vines)”, Black peach or New Zealand peach. They originate from the Lyonnais region of France, where for centuries they were planted in vineyards to provide early warning of pests and diseases. Blackboy is a collective name for around six varieties of red fleshed peaches which were imported predominantly from France to New Zealand in the early 20th Century
  • Tree: Medium vigour. Heavy to regular cropping DISEASE AND
  • Pest: Hardy, disease resistant, very popular for home gardener BLOSSOM AND
  • Pollination: Self-fertile. Mid-season flowering, blossoms burst into pinkiness in early spring
  • Fruit: Medium-sized round peach. Freestone
  • Skin: Velvety dark wine skin
  • Flesh: Delicate, sweet, juicy flesh like that of white-fleshed peaches, but with a complex flavour and deep purple hue reminiscent of fine red wine. Some commenters have used words like “raspberry,” “spice” or “cinnamon” to describe some of the subtle complexities in this peach’s flavour
