- Background: Thought to be a bud sport of Reinette de Montfort. Found by K. J. W. Ottolander, Boskoop, Netherlands in 1856, it received an Award of Merit from the RHS in 1897. One of the better cooking apples, the aromatic flesh remains crisp and firm when cooked making it ideal for pies and tarts. Boskoop varieties are very high in acid content and can contain more than four times the vitamin C of Granny Smith or Golden Delicious. There are many variants, Boskoop red, yellow or green. The tree has some resistance to canker, scab and mildew
